Don’t know if this fits since it’s a new game for a retro console, but as a big collector of retro handheld stuff this has been a treat!
The Machne is a muti-ending RPG for the GBC where you play as GIRT, a denizen of The Machine.
It’s seriously great, I’ve probably seen 10 endings so far and I’ve only just figured out how to ditch my factory job and live as an artist. I’ve killed people, moved drugs, sorted boxes, been rich, been homeless, rigged elections – there’s something for everyone.
They released both a physical cartridge and a ROM version that includes a .pocket file if you’re rocking an analogue. Available here!
There’s also a demo on itch.io
(Feel free to remove if this doesn’t fit in retrogames!)
Looks interesting. Downloading the demo now to see if it works on GarlicOS on my RG35XX. My Analogue Pocket is due sometime next century I reckon.
I think “new games” for older generations certainly apply in this community. Retro just implies not the latest generation (or even the few latest generations). So GBC is 100% retro. Just my opinion.
I’ll have to grab the .pocket file and check it out!
Good to know!
I have a big interest in these new titles releasing on old chips; some of them do narrative / design things which would have never been considered “back in the day”, so it helps spice up the library and really maximize what you can get out of these retro devices!
I’d love to get some reommendations for any other titles you’ve enjoyed in this space (new game / old platform)
The other one off the top of my head that I’ve personally tried is Deadeus which was kinda the poster child for GBStudio.
I also really enjoyed Super Jacked Up Tomato Face Johnson, which is much simpler but stays fun.
Thanks for the share, will absolutely check this out on my RG353.
I love the idea of new games being made for older platforms - if I wanted to be more aware of releases like this, is there a recommended site or community that I should join?
I’m still looking myself! The developer looks to be starting a mastodon community (pocketpixels.club) where I found FusionRGamer which seems to have a decent collection of new game news (at least for the gameboy!)
