Google is working on a backup and restore feature in Google Messages, and we were able to activate it to show you how it works.

Any ideas how it might restore the backup on signing in without needing your key afterward if it’s E2EE? Doesn’t this call into question their E2EE claims?
Probably part of the export or tied into your device or account fingerprint or something that counts as something you own
Its Google’s version of E2EE. The key is “trust me bro” its encrypted.
That last screenshot is the reason why I think local backups should be an option.
