You would have the plaintext password at login time based on the users input. I’m guessing that’s why it happens at login time rather than proactively asking people to update their passwords.

I don’t think it’s necessary to strictly avoid it by any means, it’s quite a useful tool. You just have to use it appropriately, similar to stack overflow in some ways. That said, obviously you should use / avoid whatever tools as you want.

Google Now was one of those amazing things that just felt like magic. I remember I was fly in/fly out at the time and my boarding pass would always just be one swipe away, taken straight out of my Gmail on the day of the flight. Now when I swipe I get some depressing stream of news I don’t read instead.
My favourite thing about updates on my work Mac is when you say ‘try in one hour’ thinking it’ll ask you then an hour later it aggressively closes your programs. I use Linux, Mac and Windows regularly and Mac has by far the worst update experience out of all of them imo.
It’s there because an important customer 15 years ago had a phobia of front doors, so this patch was implemented to make it easier to access the window after climbing the drain pipe.
