Well by that logic i was destined to go to hell a long time ago when i started driving. My personal annual commute to work creates ten times co2 emissions that the entirety of the energy google used to train chatgpt.
AI datacenters account for less than 10% global co2 emissions. Of course ten percent more global warming is bad, but i personally have several things that contribute more than using AI ten hours a week.
Im not super tech saavy, especially compared to the lemmy userbase, but every complaint about software just reads to me like whining about something you chose to install on your computer. You can just not use someone else’s software, yes the mainstream software companies are fucking assholes and they will take all of your data and privacy in exchange for a subscription to their software. It’s on you if you accept that deal.

the problem is that licenses were always a scam, IP is nonsense. the problem is corporations tricked us into thinking it was real so they could make more money – and now they can make more money by dispelling the myth.
my argument is that i couldn’t code real useful programs myself my whole life, and i tried several times, fail computer science in college etc, and now with claude im actually getting these things built – and there’s a lot of pitfalls a few times i had to tell claude to start over but i guess i feel like a paraplegic who could never walk but now with an accessible car i can actually drive and im sorry that’s putting a lot of horse carriage drivers out of business.
and im my IRL circle, a couple of my friends who were great at coding in college and are now master coders, they’re not complaining about it at all – they’re able to spin up ten agents at once to do things much faster than they were able to three years ago. they all have startup side businesses now on top of their full time industry job, only possible due to coding AIs helping them get shit done faster.

Definitely a possibility but i would push against the likelihood of it – it could also solve a lot of our traffic issues because humans get emotional and cause traffic jams by doing easily avoidable things like clogging up the left lane with a train of tailgating cars, etc.

I already got two raises in the past 18 months and it brings me joy to see things happening at work more efficiently, all on 20$ claude subscription, that’s fine ill pay $100/mo for the same stuff in a year, easily worth it (my employer pays it anyway)

Fuck reddit but i have a friend who automated fooa requests with claude, sent foia requests to every county in the state and has all the tracking and everything automated. Only thing he needs to do is review the emails before they get sent. It’s amazing and he’s bring transparency to every corner of the state using ai.
Not yet because people are still learning how to use it, but im literally ten times more organized than i was before i started using AI to automate notetaking planning calendaring all that.
