I would appreciate someone just saying quickly, “oops, wardrobe malfunction!” in a jokey way with eyes covered. I’d hate to discover the open zip later and recall everything I’d done while exposed.

I’m in the UK and have been torrenting for about that long too. I have had exactly one threatening email from my ISP, over a Hogwarts book from memory. I ignored it and exactly nothing happened. Somehow JK managed to survive, imagine that.

Lots of cuts to fireworks displays, crashing waves etc.

Yup, myPhonak. They’d better be mine, given the cost!

Too late for me. But thanks for telling me my computer wasn’t good enough for Win 11 and forcing me to install Linux. It was a breeze, and computing is fun again.

Love a well-packed baguette.

I’ve also just moved to Linux (my first computer ran on MS-DOS) and it was easy peasy. Moving my data over was taking a while, so I stepped out to brings the bins in. Slipped on ice and am now in hospital, recovering from surgery to a wrecked knee. Looks like I’ll have plenty of time to move the data when I get home.

I’m about to pull the plug on Windows because MS says I need to replace my PC to install Win 11. Nothing wrong with my PC at all, it runs fine. So I’ve flashed a usb stick, checked the Linux distro will run ok, backed up my data and am ready to go. Just have to get a day free of distraction…
I got my first PC in 1983 I think it was. Second-hand, running MS-DOS. I’ve done a lot of computing since then, at work as well as home, almost always Windows. I’ve had Linux on an ancient laptop for a few years, various distros. I like to tinker, so that aspect of Linux doesn’t put me off at all.

I’ve had Zorin on an old laptop for a few years now, it’s pretty good. I’d previously tried Mint and another distro I can’t remember the name of, but I’ve stuck with Zorin. I’ll probably go with it on my PC once I’ve done a backup.

No, is the answer. Moving to another ISP when my plan runs out. I’m paying extra for a VoIP line and want to move to WiFi calling.

I do a lot of water sports in the UK and we use VHF radios. Certain frequencies are used by marinas and the like, and nearby boats will be tuned into them. Then there is a frequency used for emergency calls - the coastguard listens on that and answers, and will move your call to another frequency for more details, leaving the mayday one open again.
We mainly use VHF for boat-to-boat comms, or boat-to-shore. The local range is decent - a few miles from our base, depending on atmospheric conditions, obstacles etc. I honestly have no idea if you could use VHF radios between cars though. It’s not private for a start - everyone can hear you - and once someone is yammering on the marina frequency no-one else can transmit. So it’s just brief messages with protocols.

I hate the SMS ones, because I don’t have a good phone signal in my home, so I have to ruin around trying to get a couple of bars so I can get the effing code. My banking app just uses a fingerprint.

Swimming works for me. I joined a gym at a hotel that has a pool, reasonable price and usually fairly few people. I like to swim lengths, thinking of nothing at all, for half an hour to an hour. Good for general fitness, stamina.

I thought it was interesting that she was ok with all the neighbourhood surveillance until it was used against her.

The best thing about digital photography is that you can keep trying your shot with different settings for exposure, aperture etc. it’s a great way to learn what works best in what situation.

It’s my understanding that everyone has sleep paralysis - the brain “switches off” the body (apart from essentials: breathing, heart beat etc) so you don’t come to grief acting out your dreams. What we call sleep paralysis is when you wake, but your body hasn’t been switched back on.
I used to have horrible sleep paralysis nightmares quite often. But then I read about what it really is, and I stopped having them. It was like my brain realised it was out of sync and corrected itself.
I saw a guy on YouTube talking about the capability of videotape tech at the time. Upshot was that it was that the footage had to have been broadcast live, it couldn’t have been prerecorded. Didn’t convince my idiot acquaintance of course.
You could always try the Buzz Aldrin approach: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/hqoYiUAppmI
