5·26 days agoThe worst thing is that this isn’t exactly new. The house heard about the vulnerabilities of this system in May.

Unfortunately, we’re in such a state of plutocracy and regulatory capture that even stating how big of a national security risk they are did not make any movement until now.

21·27 days agoIf you think for about two seconds about the national security implications about this, this is extremely, extremely bad.

To have that kind of skillful assistance available for arbitrary purposes should squarely place significant liability, maybe even majority in some cases, on the provider.

3·6 months agoThat’s my problem. None are there yet, at least with my hardware.
If you’ve got 20 grand to spend, there’s a couple of models out there, like the one mentioned above that should do fine.

9·2 years agoKinda have mixed feelings about this. Those who are innocent know that they are on the list at the cost of their SSN or national ID. Bit of a mixed blessing there.
Also, a bunch of truly bad actors will be compromised. Maybe that’s good?
Hmm. Dunno how to feel.
I believe there’s potential for great benefit for everyone.
I also believe that if my records are used to innovate I should get a cut and get an opportunity to opt in or out. I should have agency. I don’t like that I don’t.
I still believe that this is, on balance, a good thing.
So long as they’re totally de-identified (not linkable to people), this is a good thing. Image a GPT that can diagnose you 10x as accurately as a human and 1000x faster. This can revolutionize medicine.
Generally, data science is evil and so is Google, but this needs to be done.
Dismounting soap box now.
That I am. I’ve been fucking around with it for a couple of hours now and I just can’t figure out why it’s not working. I’m pretty convinced that it’s not me though. I tried using the fluffy app as well but I couldn’t get that to work quite right either. I’m starting to wonder if there isn’t something going on with Android 14 that’s causing the issue but I really don’t know.
Thanks. I joined. I think there might be an issue with the client now, but the link worked.
I followed the prompt for the encryption upgrade and that failed.

The damage really just amounts to insignificant outliers. There’s so many cameras that the vandalized ones only make up a statistically insignificant portion.
At the moment, I believe the actual movement is coming from the ground up, grassroots movements that are going to their town halls and telling their representatives that they want these cameras the fuck out of their cities, and it seems to be working, at least somewhat.
I’d be lying though if I didn’t feel some kind of justice and satisfaction every time I see that one dude in Florida carrying around a camera.
