If you want to control what your child sees you have to control what your child sees. There is no shortcut. You either shut off the methods for the companies to feed slop to your child or you curate the things that come in via those methods. You cannot automate it.
Personally, I’d shut off basically any social media or algorithmic feeds for the kid. They don’t need that corporate reality-distortion during the years in which you are trying to develop them into a functional human.
A doctor can arrange a sputum test. Basically, you spit into a container and they check it for active tuberculosis. Oh, wait… consumMAtion.
If you are smart enough to be suspicious, you are not their target audience. They feed on the fact many modern societies expect the mentally ill/handicapped to take care of themselves.

The fullest widom is knowing it all depends on your goals and risks. This is not a universal binary.

Why do you want to? If it’s to be ‘famous’ or ‘make money,’ absolutely not. If it’s to just have some company while you game, a community might be better but it probably won’t be bad for that. If it’s because you like to entertain, maybe. It can be practice for public performance. Just beware audience capture.
Quite. Some of them make it as difficult as possible, requiring the request to be physically printed and sent in via the post. Some hide the information regarding how to make the request as obscurely as possible. And essentially none of them treat it as a ‘and don’t collect any more’ request so they just start up a new collection on you the next time you do basically anything with one of their ‘business partners.’ Allowing people to request deletion is just the excuse they use to keep collection legal when it shouldn’t be.
Installing windows for most of that time hasn’t been a thing people do. They bought a computer and it had the internets (the picture with the blue e) and the word (the picture with the paper and a W) and that was pretty much them sorted. We’re weird for knowing the difference and that’s not a bad thing to be.
The key to ‘liking’ AI is to turn corporation-brained and stop caring about any sense of quality, customer satisfaction, or even your own satisfaction.
Minimum. Viable. Product.
That’s why they love AI. It promises to make it so that you can always BS something out the door in 10 minutes, collect the check, and move on before it breaks. When you have no conception of pride in your product, the money you get paid to sell cheap trash is just as spendable as what you get selling artisanal creations, and if you can BS out something in half the time, you can do it to twice as many customers. Double revenue. And by the time the lawsuits come in, you’re supposed to be already working somewhere else. That’s the company’s problem, not yours, right?
If you’re wanting to use software that’s most easily available on different distros, why not just use Distrobox? If you are just wanting to change the UI, why not just switch DEs? If you really need to be able to randomly switch away from/to system level differences, what are you doing? What would necessitate that?

Do you mean ‘life feels scripted’ in the sense of you feel like there is a narrative structure to life, like your actions and words are decided by an external writer? Or do you mean in the sense of life has a narrative economy, like someone could have ‘plot armor?’ Or is it the sense that life should have more structure, like it goes against some unwritten law of writing that some things could happen at all?
People aren’t here for Lemmy in particular. They’re here to avoid the others. If all you want is content, you’ll just go to Reddit. If you are here, it’s because you recognized something of the awfulness in corporate reddit but liked the format. Lemmy is Reddit for people who pay attention and care.
Pick something that interests you but is made by a small, indie, maybe even solo dev. Check out some of the stuff made by people on lemmy in the Godot community maybe. Lots of cool projects to consider.

If you can’t rely on them more (not ‘just as much,’ more) than the people who would do whatever the task is, you can’t use them for any important task, and you aren’t going to find a lot of tasks which are simultaneously necessary and yet unimportant enough that we can tolerate rolling nat 1s on the probability machine all the time.
