anyone with the skill set to build that and access to the supply chain and fabs required to build it isn’t going to risk getting sued for that.

but you can buy retro style devices that can emulate most consoles older than 20 years, they’re pretty common. some even go as far as literal cartridge compatibility.

I do have that childhood nostalgia for cartridges, but that aside the modern joy of physical media is usually something like works offline, works 20 years from now, can’t be remotely disabled. But I’ve found that once you’re paying $599 for a brick with a 5 year expiration time bomb built-in, $70 per game, 20GB downloads before you can start playing, the dark patterns don’t end there, and the whole ecosystem just isn’t worth all the hassle.

TBF almost all the games worth playing before 2016 probably run fine on at least one of: your phone or your linux PC.

lol I signed up for deal alerts because I wanted a really specific product. my keywords were meticulously specific. their deal search tool allowed me to tune my search so products I want are in the results and products I don’t want are not. every email they send me includes products that are “related but obviously wrong” to my keywords. Like I’d be ok if an algorithm slipped in a mistake or two but you made a whole fucking page dedicated to this and then you just send random bullshit to my email? that’s basically spam. Like imagine if you made a custom search for “nike sneakers -addidas” and the search tool confirmed 100% you got the keywords right and then the actual email alert is sending you addidas shorts and other random bullshit.

there are a lot of competitors to Cursor that will give you a free trial that might be good for 2 weeks or a month. Free tiers have been drying up recently IME. OpenAI Codex probably has the best free tier ATM. Change the model to 5.4-mini to stretch it out a lot.

I’m under the impression that Github Copilot was just using an earlier version of OpenAI codex. They didn’t fumble because they were never a shovel factory, they were always a shovel reseller.

in the case of companies like EA Activision etc., you could argue paying for it harms the creator by empowering their exploiters, and that paying for it harms the innocent because the US government receives a cut.

As long as they follow the rules, they’re more valuable as a list of IP addresses to hand over to feds.

if you live in the US, fair, it’s probably required, but at the same time, 1 year of vpn probably costs the same as 2 months of whatever random netlflix/hulu streaming service. If you have a roommate, split the price? I wouldn’t trust a VPN with anything more sensitive than torrents (without extensive research). Then again, I’m not totally sure I’m willing to vouch for the value of a VPN vs your free options.

I’m regionlocked to one of the shit Big ISPs in the US, so VPN is required. Unfortunately, my experienced years of free roaming a smaller ISP is probably out of date because they easily could have been merged/bought out or otherwise notified that they need to start snitching.

But if you think you’re safe because you haven’t received the first of your 3 strikes or w/e, they might be building a case against you and waiting for the right amount of net total seeded infringement or right administration to prosecute you under.
