Maybe spend some time investigating how to make nuget packages and then move onto deb or rpm. That way you’ll have a better idea of the problems that you’ll face in making your own. Personally whenever I feel the need for some kind of package manager, nuget is flexible enough that I can repurpose it to almost anything.

5·9 months agoYeah, that’s part of it. But there is something more fundamental, it’s not just rising up the ranks but also time spent in management. It feels like someone can get promoted to middle management and be good at the job initially, but then as the job is more about telling others what to do and filtering data up the corporate structure there’s a certain amount of brain rot that sets in.
I had just attributed it to age, but this could also be a factor. I’m not sure it’s enough to warrant studies, but it’s interesting to me that just the act of managing work done by others could contribute to mental decline.

1292·9 months agoDoes this also explain what happens with middle and upper management? As people have moved up the ranks during the course of their careers, I swear they get dumber.
Yeah, but it just worked better. I remember doing all the cludges and hacks for IE. The bad taste in my mouth is still largely the reason I hate doing web ui work.
It’s interesting to see the similarities between the market when IE was king and now with chrome. I prefer to use Firefox, but there are just so many sites that only work with chrome. Etc.
Well when it was just IE, Netscape and Opera… IE was the best browser. It won. Hands down.
That was well thought out. Thanks for sharing
What’s wrong with unraid?

Programming@programming.dev•What SDLC Paradigm Did You Use in Your Project?
14·1 year agoI’ve spent the last 25 years writing enterprise applications. 10 or so years ago the sdlc became “Dark Scrum” where all the trappings of scrum, expectations of waterfall and non of the prep work of waterfall. It’s an interesting system where management can demand anything and then blame the devs for any and all problems that occur because “we didn’t follow the process”. Recently I’ve been given a larger management role and kind threw the entire process out of the window. Baby, bathwater, all of it. And just went with a basic kanban style. We try to do one thing at a time and a lot of my time is spent keeping a backlog that is estimated and prioritized. We have a standup type of call on Monday and Thursday for no more than 5 minutes. (we’re a 100% remote team now, so no office)

Shudder. I had this weird brand laptop… Sotec IIRC and there just wasn’t a modline that ever got it all right.
Xserver… Somehow trying to find the magic string of letters and numbers that made your screen work.

Yeah, you could probably make a linux distro that uses nuget for packaging… Hadn’t really thought about it but it should be doable.
