Linux has enough media coverage
Nothing personal, but the hell it does.

Linux is more for everyone than Windoze is.

At 3:27: “Linux still isn’t for everybody.”
Please stop saying this! Linux is for everybody. It’s Windoze that isn’t because that’s where the exceptions lie. E.g., it’s only some people that need 3ds Max or some other niche proprietary software that isn’t supported on Linux. Conversely, the majority of the population simply uses the browser for email, videos, simple administrative tasks, et cetera, for which Linux is perfect and better than anything M$.
Hypothetically, let’s say Linux Mint came preinstalled on every computer instead of Windoze. People would lose their shit if through an update the UX suddenly became like Windoze.

Hm okay. I’ll check again in six months when Belgium isn’t a depressing film Noir scene straight from Max Payne 1 & 2.

Double clicks h4rdc0r3p0rn.exe right from limewire
Quickly followed by existential dread after realizing what I’ve done.

Yes. I “see” it too but can unsee it quite easily. I think it’s more apparent in unlit environments.

Widespread Cloudflare outage blamed on mysterious traffic spike
Just like my 14-year-old self who “mysteriously” bricked his parents’ PC by totally SFW Web usage.

I don’t get it. If an email was encrypted with PGP between a friend and myself, how would anyone else without the private keys be able to decrypt it?

No wonder Musk was bullied as a kid.

Even as an EndeavourOS user, I concur: Mint. Why? Cinnamon is hands down the best desktop environment. Beginner friendly default without blasting features in one’s face with configs all over the place, yet intuitively customizable for experienced Linux users.
This means she will be able to freely use it without your help, but you will be able to easily fine tune it to her preferences as well.

I honestly tend to think that instead of using search engines where you already have to know what you’re looking for, it might be better to use something like lemmy where you can advertise what you made with a post in an appropriate community.
Obviously both have their place, but POSSE is the magic sauce:
“POSSE is an abbreviation for Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere, the practice of posting content on your own site first, then publishing copies or sharing links to third parties (like social media silos) with original post links to provide viewers a path to directly interacting with your content.” ―https://indieweb.org/POSSE

“The need for discovery
Nothing you do to try to make the web a better place matters if nobody can find what you did. There are a lot of precious websites out there that deserve an audience, but instead are languishing in obscurity.
This makes alternative discovery mechanisms an urgent priority of the free and independent web, both document search as well as blog and RSS-feed discovery.”

I don’t know why people keep saying this. You either pay for a service, or you get a company extracting as much data as they can from you for advertiser or VC money. Servers and bandwidth cost money
Yes, things cost money. Yes, ideally those who can pay for it should. No, something being free doesn’t legitimize unethical means to make a profit.

Cinnamon. After using Xfce and KDE Plasma for years, and having testing Gnome, Budgie, etc., Cinnamon feels like it took the best ingredients from all of them.
The beauty of Linux is the triviality of creating an alias that runs whatever long or short update command by typing “upd” or “release_the_epstein_files”. E.g., in ~/.bashrc, place:
alias release_the_epstein_files="sudo pacman -Syu --noconfirm"
pacman -Syu

The entire stock market has become a meme stock pyramid scheme. No price makes sense; it’s all glorified gambling making life on this planet worse for most living things.

By using unfriendly language online?
How is Lemmy different? As far as I know it just comes down to chance, hoping the first user to start the community is fair.
