You just recommended Jonathan Haidt, a man whose entire thesis is that we should empathise with the moral intuitions of people who oppose civil rights, as a corrective to my reading of MLK. I don’t think you’ve understood either of them. He has been extensively criticised for false equivalence on exactly these kinds of questions.

It’s worth noting you thanked the person who educated you patiently and spent four replies defending yourself to the person who named what you were doing. That’s a very white moderate response to being told you’re doing white moderate things. Trans people should not need to justify themselves this way. Jesus Christ.

The “white moderate” position you’re demonstrating is what MLK warned about: someone who agrees injustice is wrong, but insists on finding neutral framings for it. You’re more devoted to appearing objective than to justice.

Trans people do not owe anyone a medicalised justification for their existence on a government document, period. The DMV are not medical staff. Your gender has nothing to do with passing a test to drive.

Searching for a “reasonable” angle on a law built on hate doesn’t make you objective, it makes you an obstacle; and to paraphrase what MLK said: Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than outright hostility.

The “white moderate”* position is not always worth considering. Trans people should not have to justify their existence, this has nothing to do with medicine.

Financialised capitalism is a death cult.

Nothing matters to the market but profit. Forests only have value as timber or toilet paper; animals only have value as hot dogs or hamburgers. The precious, unrepeatable moments of our lives only have value as labor hours determined by the imperatives of commerce. The market rewards landlords for evicting families, bosses for exploiting employees, engineers for inventing death machines. It separates mothers from their children, drives species into extinction, shuts down hospitals to open up privatized prisons. It reduces entire ecosystems to ash, spewing out smog and stock options. Left to itself, it will turn the whole world into a graveyard.

Some things are worth risking our lives for. Perpetuating capitalism is not one of them. If we have to risk our lives, let’s risk them for something worthwhile, like creating a world in which no one has to risk death for a paycheck. Life for the market means death for us.

Ironically the more sycophantic it gets, the less useful I find it for what I need to do, like building. I want a tool that can catch mistakes early, it’s so incredibly annoying.

You can get an old HP microserver on eBay for less than 100 bucks. Still runs fine. I threw debian on it. Great for starting out… I use mine for backups, services and Jellyfin. It gave my beloved 870 a home. :,)
