because at least on windows, they just don’t work well

shit always opens on the wrong desktop, they’re slow and glitchy. it’s just a pain

    I just have four monitors

very infrequently I use virtual desktops for particular things, but too often I need to see the secondary shit while doing the primary and also have a meeting or tertiary info up while accessing chat

  • I’ve been playing with cursor a bit at work (non-dev here - I’m a mechanical engineer writing custom tools for me & my team).

it might just be the way I use it, because my AI-positive boss seems to be more successful than me, but it’s… not great. cursor itself seems to have many problems following instructions. and then the code it comes up with… I’ve seen it make a complete replica of the original code when I asked it to add another scenario to the four already there, and mixed and matched between the two copies to access functions etc so that you couldn’t just remove one.

it’s definitely helped me a bit when I got stuck with a particular issue and didn’t know what API calls to be using, but in general… idk. I don’t have enough time with it yet, nor am I skilled enough to judge it properly, I think.

  • I used to hate short form content in principle

but YT shorts actually shows me content from creators I like. sometimes I like browsing it, because some of that content is well suited to the format rather than dragging it out into a five minute video

what I fucking HATE is when YouTube opens up to the shorts page and just autoplays. it’s inconsistent and idk why it does that

now, why the shorts format is here, and we can’t just mix the short videos with the long ones in the same library… idk

  • One thing I’m learning as the company I’m at grows is that there are a lot of people who simply suck at communicating. they don’t know how to do it by messaging, they don’t know how to do it by email, they don’t know how to do it by phone call, and they need somebody right there in front of them to point out their bullshit and drag out what they’re trying to say

I noticed this morning that it sometimes feels like I’m talking to fucking AI. somebody asked me to review something with no context, says they did something, I point out hey didn’t you actually do this and not that, then like a dumb AI chatbot they just agree with me and say yes you’re right it is that and then don’t elaborate. this is not a conversation that you can have remotely, because the person on the other end is a fucking idiot that can’t communicate. this conversation goes slightly better in person, because you are more likely to take the lead in it
