I disagree, all three must addressed whether individually or collectively. In today’s America, there is little distinction between corporation and government, especially in the tech sector.
I like stinky tofu a lot. I’m Canadian. I’m excited to see my country grow. I’m new to lemmy. I prefer local communities over public ones, until I’m convinced otherwise. I’m bad at writing bios.

The problem is Microsoft. It’s also the datacentre builders. It’s also the governments.
All three are a fucking problem
Maybe, maybe not. Google knows how to manipulate the standards used on the web. My comment wasn’t really an assertion of fact as much as a dream of Google and their scummy practices dying
It was a hypothetical question posed to the readers haha
But that’s a super polite way of rejecting somebody, so props for that 😂
Never browsing the internet again is the real secret to happiness. It’s about a stone’s throw away for many of us who care deeply about it.
As with so many problems of the modern internet, the problem often comes down to Google’s greasy balls leaving stains in every nook and cranny of the web.
We’re kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of fingerprinting, at least for now.
I was typing out my explanation but I started writing too much and I suppose if you’re interested in the technical details you can Google it look it up.
As with all this stuff, it’s a bottomless pit. Are you sure you really wanna jump in?
If you only interact with Aurora Store via Tor and don’t use Play Services to prevent potential IPC data leaks and block network of apps with firebase analytics then it helps a decent chunk more.
Of course we can go down the rabbit hole of privacy 'till whatever point suits us. If somebody is determined to use Aurora or is going to use Google in some way or another, then they’re gonna use it.
I don’t see a negative aspect to throwing Tor in the mix at the very least.
If you know there’s a better solution (there is), then you’re probably not the target audience for the post. I mean that in a nice way, I hate Google with a fiery passion too.
Yeah, the result was weird to me too. I’ve been meaning to message the devs to get a concrete answer but I’ve been lazy.
All the rest read, acknowledged and agreed.
(for anyone reading this in the spooky future, we’re mainly discussing browser fingerprinting and other privacy technologies. Context matters, buckos)
That is handy! F-Droid is the best
Must be entry and exit node dependant then, or perhaps you got a newly designated IP. I’m shocked that Google isn’t nearly immediately blocking the comprehensive list.
I pretty much fully agree, and if the GrapheneOS community in particular is pointing to a mirror site and saying “this one is fine if you’re gonna use one”, then I’m likely to worry much less about injected malware. But you’ve always gotta worry about Google and their team of evil doers.
Many use APK Pure as far as I’m aware.
Surprisingly enough when using the Origin build of brave I saw no measurable difference in fingerprinting artifacts after reviewing the list from EFF’s Cover Your Tracks and browserleaks.com
Your point about the Origin build reducing privacy via a smaller user pool was a huge concern for me, so those findings were a relief.
Also yes, many will toggle settings such as ‘Ask not to track’ (forget the exact label), to on, or adding identifying, uncommon, and regional extensions (kinda any third party ones tbh) - believing that they’re increasing their privacy but unfortunately, significantly increasing chances of successful fingerprinting.
I don’t blame people, it’s such a cluster fuck and the wisdom of old has drastically changed.
This is a much more concise and probably more effective way to explain a good chunk of what I wrote out.

You know how people have been doing those horrible crimes where they destroy datacentres?
I hope people don’t realize the same thing can be done to places like Google’s offices. But if they do, I also hope they’d be responsible enough to make sure no low/mid level employees were in the building. I bet, and this is just too sad, that the executives would be the prime targets 😔
That would be tragic. Super duper tragic.
So tragic.
Tragic.

It certainly is. If you wanna feel like you’ve rewound 10 years in the past, you gotta pony up. And even still everything feels wrong.
But in the interim, before the bubble pops, I do see the value in having no AI as a feature, especially when the immediate alternative is “go fuck yourself”.
One payment for actual slop removal, priced by devs properly to allow them somewhat equivalent revenue compared to if you were being data harvested - that’s basically the only good way to do it if we’re gonna do it.
No micro transactions and no double or triple or quadruple or quintuple or sextuple dipping on larger payments either.
When did everything become a fever dream?
Ok, and that’s a well-thought out and respectable position. I wish you shared that level of insight from the start, but thank you. In principle I very much agree with you, actually.
And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your political activities (which includes your online comments and advocacy) are quite literally in that same paragraph lol
I do advocate for them. Not that I am obligated to prove it to you on any way, but here’s a link of me commenting on Lemmy 8 months ago, in direct relation to First Nations peoples.
You can’t build good faith with people when you don’t give good faith arguments. Perhaps it’s worth contemplating if you’re really trying to change something in the world, or if you’re just frustrated and venting on the internet.
Either is fine, but let’s be honest with ourselves. Your comments lead me to believe you may be in the latter group.
I have sympathy for non-profits. Did you ever use Gmail or Google Drive? Same concept.
If they’re smart enough, they’ll look for greener pastures, if they double down that’s when my sympathy ends.
