Kevin Afghani announced he’s taken over the plunger from Mario’s voice actor for over 25 years, Charles Martinet.

Now… Can we not send this latest "new voice of ___” person death threats, Gamers?

Just this once? Can you not prove to everyone that anyone who enjoys videogames is trash?

If you’re a sonic fan at all, you’d know we they don’t take this kinda change very well.

Gaming fanbase doesn’t send death threat challenge (impossible)

edit: on the “ah?” at 0:26, I hear a little more annoyed “what the hell?” tone in there. I’d imagine it’d have been a more inquisitive “hmm?” under martinet, similar to 0:08. I like that he’s giving mario a bigger range within the extreme limitations nintendo probably put on him, and aiming for relatively a tiny less whimsy and a tiny more grounded compared to martinet’s body of work

He’s a pretty decent drop-in replacement. I thought for sure I’d notice a difference from the promo video at the end of the article. Even though there is a minor difference, it’s so negligible you could easily just pretend Charles had a cold in the booth.

It’s a lot better than the Sonic Voice Actor fiasco Sega has had.

Unfortunately, it seems Wario got the short end of the stick. Wario’s voice in the new WarioWare trailer is very noticeably different.

Oh yeah, you’re right. I’m sure it will get better with time, or we’ll just get used to it.

Roger Craig Smith’s initial voice for Sonic in Promos was awful, but it was serviceable by the time the first game came out.

I don’t think Roger Craig Smith is bad, and I think it works well for the modern Boost era. Being said, Ryan Drummond will always be my Sonic.

I miss the Mario Kart 64 Wario. Never was a fan of the deeper voice in later games.

Same goes for Toad. Bring back the MK64 Toad. I’m tired of the two-packs-a-day Toad we have now.

Yeah thats pretty competent. I’ll admit i was hoping for a new take on Mario, but theres no way fans would be happy with anything other than a Charles Martinet soundalike.

I’m pretty picky about voices of iconic characters, but the new guy doing Mario and Luigi is solid. He sounds just like them to me, so no problem.

In what other instances are you picky about the voices of iconic characters?

Sonic is basically what got me invested in voice actor swaps lol. I literally can’t stand some of the voice actor swaps in that series because they just sound so drastically different and wrong.

Voice issues happen a lot with anime too when it gets dubbed. Rarely will the dub be better, but there’s some iconic dubs like the pokemon cast, or haruhi. With the yuki-chan spin-off series of haruhi, I was really concerned they’d get different VAs and it’d be ruined as a result, but fortunately they had brought back the entire original cast.

I’m honestly not a fan. But I’ll probably get used to it fast enough.

What I am surprised about is that they didn’t get tons of voices and lines to just reuse for the next 100 years and opted for a new voice actor all together.
