I have a router that has a single ethernet port. So I bought an ethernet switch to expand the single port on the router to allow connection for more devices to connect via ethernet.
On my PC I have a network activity monitor (rainmeter skin). Basically even if my PC has 0 network activity going on, it is showing the download/upload activity from OTHER devices that is now connected via ethernet. Is this normal?
(Keep in mind I am no hardware expert)
Sounds like a hub rather than a switch (a switch would only send data down the one correct port, whereas a hub sends data down all ports), and that your network activity monitor puts the ethernet port in promiscuous mode so it can see activity not intended for this PC .
