10·9 months agoI’ve tried that many different types of unicode formatting and still had posts removed. I looked at removed posts from reveddit and my jaw dropped at how much they are censoring. Most common for me was Lemmy and Canada related comments or links.

This is based in the USA FWIW if you’re concerned about privacy.
Their website says that the entire business is in the USA. Their mailbox forwarding service operates out of Florida. As a Canadian, this is a nonstarter for me and I do not trust an American company with my privacy.

The Ontario election is Feb 27 and he is on track for a third majority, in part since cons thrive on low voter turnout.
Ford is actively suppressing voter turnout by calling a winter snap election, shortening the voting period, banning his local candidates from debates, and muzzling them from speaking to press. He also illegally spent >$100 million of taxpayer dollars on his own campaign.

Local libraries rock.
The US have always been the bad guys. Even independence was about being able to do more genocide and land stealing without the British getting in the way.
Canada also has a brutal history of both slavery and genocide.
Accepting that is the first step to overcoming systemic racism and building communities that we can all thrive in.
If Americans want to help, please read.
Right now, Pierre Poilievre, Doug Ford, and Danielle Smith are the political candidates who pose the greatest threat to Canada. All are big Trump supporters.
PP is close to winning federally but can be realistically defeated and Doug Ford is set up for a landslide victory as the Premier of Ontario. We need help with Ford.
Please, please, please help repost and share on social media when you see ways to defeat them.
I prefer Mastodon but the reality is more Canadians are on Bluesky and Shitter.

53·1 year agoI’m surprised by this decision, since Ubuntu’s strength is stability and by extension, friendliness to new users. Imo, a better move would be to ship a separate “unstable” release with non-LTS kernels.
Worth a look at Coros. I find their battery life and product support to be much better than the garmin watches I’ve owned. They even added maps as an update for existing watches when they could have forced people to buy a new watch for that feature. Not FOSS though.
If there was an open source GPS watch that could last long enough with enough accuracy for my workouts, I’d be all over it!

2·2 years agoI’ve been using KISS for I don’t know how many years at this point. I can’t imagine using anything else at this point. I’m sure that there’s plenty of other great FOSS launchers out there!
