Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Suggestions for Community OrganizingEnglish
2·7 months agoDon’t go into slack or discord unless you are able to access every possible chat room. People are weird, neighbors are wierded, neighbors online are absolutely toxic. Theonly alternative is that you have access of all chat logs in the app. Setting up mattermost on a vps would work, but I think there are better options for what app to use. Funny enough Next loud can do everything you want it to do, including slack-lile chat rooms, VoIP, email, contact management, cloud storage, web portal, and you still have access to the logs (in case something wrong happens).

12·7 months agoI still have the hope FIFA is going to kick the US out (most likely not to happen) or Mexico and Canda step away in hopes they hurt FIFA

4·7 months agoFrom what I can tell as someone who detests clickbait as well, the stupid algorithm for YouTube shows it works so while I also wish there shouldn’t be any more clickbait, creators somewhat have to do it or risk their video getting lost in the vast ocean of other daily uploads

Android@lemmy.world•Google Messages change means your employer may be able to see your messagesEnglish
81·8 months agoThis is why I would never install company apps on my personal phone. If my employer wants me to have a phone, they can give me one that I will turn off and place infaraday bag when I clock out.

1·8 months agoHonestly, don’t. Build your own instead. A desktop motherboard with multiple sata ports, an M.2 for the main storage, and just throw Truenass on it. If you can checkout fb marketplace maybe you can even score some cheap server instead. It would cost you about the same and you won’t have to worry about some corporation taking your data or spying on you.

2·8 months agoNot going to say the company, but every single company I’ve worked on does this to their remote workers, you just don’t know about it.

321·8 months ago- credit cards, debit cards, and now cashless vendors
- flock cameras
- google, fb, and amazon scooping everything I do online
- license plate readers on cop cars and on random parking lots
- my work computer taking screenshots, listening, and even scanning how long I spend reading an email to make sure I am not ignoring the nonsense the company directors send us about how great AI is and that we all have to use it EVERY FUCKING DAY
- membership cards
- I can’t think of more right now, but there are more

2·8 months ago- You are allowing a large faceless coorporation that has ties to both government and big tech to setup a back door to your network.
- Your data is encrypted to the outside world, but all your packets are unencrypted to cloudflare so they can check them safely, and can be easily analyzed by cloudflare before encrypting them to the outside world.
- Its free so you are the product.
- They protect scammers.

Same but I often forget about one hit bands that made “that song” that just rocks and it was super easy to build playlists with recommendations from Spotify. Also, per the readme of the repo, you don’t have to use Lidarr and it will just do recommendations.
