Lost power in Seattle Weds night and finished our D&D session by candlelight. It was kind of cool. I heard another one is on the way tonight.

As a resident of a sanctuary city I’m amazed by how well the illegal Mexicans are managing to hide their rampant tsunami of murder, rape, drugs etc. Clever bastards - you’d almost think it isn’t even happening.
Twitter/X should be called Twix and a tweet should be a twext.
I’m embarrassingly proud of this.
I know right? Who cares about basketball?
“I’m a workaholic, and anybody who isn’t needs a good horse-whippin’ to knock some sense into 'em!”
True - remember Windows phones? Me neither.
If you debloat Win10 and 11 your system will run better. Debloaters are aggressive to differing degrees (I recommend Chris Titus), but a lot of things are turned on by default that shouldn’t be - like the Xbox service when you don’t have an Xbox - using resources for no reason.
True, even user-friendly Linux distros have their pain points. The real difference between Linux and corporate OS products is that you don’t periodically need a new version because of a product churn schedule.
I bet somebody’s done it. There are people in the Linux world who dedicate themselves to getting it to run on anything - a TV, a toaster…
But it would probably be a lot easier to just run Linux on a Raspberry Pi or something and use the TV as a monitor.

Marcus is right, incremental improvements in AIs like ChatGPT will not lead to AGI and were never on that course to begin with. What LLMs do is fundamentally not “intelligence”, they just imitate human response based on existing human-generated content. This can produce usable results, but not because the LLM has any understanding of the question. Since the current AI surge is based almost entirely on LLMs, the delusion that the industry will soon achieve AGI is doomed to fall apart - but not until a lot of smart speculators have gotten in and out and made a pile of money.
Better late than never I guess.
meaning even more so
* Safety Warning * - You just said “Kids these days.” The next step down that slippery slope is “Get off my lawn!”

More and more 70s-90s SNL skits are coming to life for real.
First one I remember was when the Gillette Track 2 twin-bladed razor came out. The ads showed an animation of how the first blade pulls the whisker out slightly, then the second blade cuts it off, allowing what’s left to snap back below the skin for a super-close shave. SNL made a parody ad for a triple-bladed razor where the second blade pulls it out even more and the third one cuts it. The slogan was: “the new Track 3 - because you’ll believe ANYTHING!” Within a year there were actual triple-bladed razors.
yeah No.
Never thought I would say this but PLEASE let Trump live another 4 years.
Pretty sure it depends on where you live. My CenturyLink gigabit internet in Seattle is superb, symmetrical up/down, $75/mo. Haven’t had significant problems in 10 or 15 years.
In Oregon and Washington the standard used to be a pretty predictable “Columbus Day storm” in early-mid October. In the last 15-20 years it’s been drifting later and later, but this year’s is the latest I’ve ever seen, assuming that’s what it is.
