What do you use?
Either an IDE like Visual Studio or Xcode or a text editor like Notepad++, Vim or nano, it depends. I also use Android Studio but I hate it.
Linux-based OSes are less uniform than Windows. They could and probably will be targeted, but exploits won’t spread because of how many verities they are and how different and incompatible they can be. Some, for example, don’t even use the GNU utils and userland.
Two things can be right at the same time. I remember when I used to run VS6, IE and WinAmp in 128MB with KBs to spare. Even today, proper VS is a much better product than VSCode while being a full fledged IDE and not just a glorified text editor.
should have at least had the decency to send them to the trash instead of outright deleting, this is just good and sane design
So VS Code isn’t just slow and bloated, it also deletes your files. So glad I was turned off by its excessive memory consumption and deleted it before it deleted my files.
Edit: also why I only ever used git from the command line, I never found a git UI that is easy to understand, and never trusted them.

Yup. It is all about paying the price, Microsoft could technically get Windows certified as UNIX. IBM did just that with its mainframe OS. Here’s a list of certified UNIX systems: https://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/register/
Others have answered, but it is interesting to know the history of UNIX and why this came to be. BSD is technically UNIX derived, but being more specific isn’t the reason why it has distinct branding. As with many evils the root is money, and there’s a lot in play into how it all happened, including AT&T being a phone monopoly.

And I recommend watching this video informative and funny about the history and drama behind it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7tvI6JCXD0

systemd is the future, and the future has been here for over a decade and yet old Unix and BSD purists still cry about it
I have one simple thing to say to the downvoters: I am not using a minicomputer from 1970, why should I be bound by the limits set then?
