1·1 year agoYou’re advocating for quantity over quality. You will easily find situations where students don’t learn in small groups because the professor lecturing that group isn’t a good professor.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts?
3·1 year agoResilio hasn’t been issue-free for my use case, but it hasn’t been destructive like Syncthing has. I thought the Syncthing stuff was just me, but I’ve seen similar accounts from some people online.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts?
1·1 year agoHard disagree. I’ve had so many issues with Syncthing deleting files and refusing to connect over LAN that I’ve never had with Resilio Sync.
This is such an awful idea as it stops us from buying international packages from anywhere. The ‘loophole’ is already closed for China.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•As a US citizen who was born in the UK, how risky is it to leave and reenter the US right now?
1·1 year agoI’d probably consult a lawyer.
They can’t (legally) deny you entry into the US, but they might make your life hell when re-entering. Bring a burner phone with you in case they take your phone. Don’t keep anything even remotely political saved on there.

32·1 year agoBattery-powered vehicles require an unreasonable amount of water to control a fire. 1 burning Tesla needs 1 fire truck of water, so imagine what a bigger vehicle would need.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why isn't free stuff (public domain/noncommercial) discussed as much as paid stuff?
111·1 year agoOftentimes (but not always), free stuff has a lower budget and lower amounts of effort put into it by fewer people. This often results in a worse product.

21·1 year agoWhy not legally cross? It’s not that hard to do so.

461·1 year agoEveryone else is only talking about the scummy affiliate revenue stealing, but that’s been public info for a while.
The more alarming stuff is that they partner with businesses to manage the coupon codes shown on Honey. If a business doesn’t want consumers to have discounts below a certain percentage, they can remove those coupons from Honey. This means that Honey no longer does the thing that it’s advertised to do, and they’re getting paid affiliate revenue after lying to consumers.

YouTube is not replaceable because it’s the only reliable way for VOD creators to monetize their content effectively without a paywall. No other VOD platform comes close.
If creators can’t monetize their content effectively, they’re not going to upload to that platform.
No, it’s because there’s a lottery system that has been backlogged for decades. US immigration is such a bad process that skilled people go to Canada instead because the government there actually values those people.
