  • All I have is anecdotal about the US and I only remember due to the annoyance. I’ve moved six times in the last seven years. I have swapped the direction of my dryer door every time because the side hookups were on changed every time. My dryer is currently on the left. Prior to these moves I couldn’t say with 100% certainty but if I try to picture myself in that laundry room I think my dryer was on the left but it isn’t something I paid attention to until I had to swap the dryer door hinges every time I moved since so my dryer door would open away from the washing machine.

  • I think I might have gotten into my own head with it when I first noticed what you meant when I touched my lips. I touched my genitals after and then went to my thighs. My lips and genitals I can clearly feel that they are being touched by my finger and I don’t feel it through my finger. So I started poking my thighs, chest, back, feet, etc and it kept feeling the same but I think I was pushing too hard or had the experiment in my head too much. After reading this post I can feel the difference testing my lips vs my forehead and from there I seem to weirdly be able to tell my brain is influencing wether I feel the sensation through my thigh or my finger if I do that next. If I go from my lips to my thigh I feel it in my thigh, if I go from my forehead to my thigh I feel both through my finger. It’s like my brain is screwing with me/itself because it knows what I’m doing. I bet if I was less focused on what I’m trying to experiment with that I could do it in a more decoupled way. Such a small but cool bit about myself that I had no idea was a thing. Thank you for explaining and walking me through the process.

Edit: I think I reversed the sensation direction in my first response, my only excuse is that this is kind of wild and new territory for me so I think I struggle communication the different sensations that I never even realized I was capable of until now. Your explanation and guidance was still right on though. Thank you

  • I was making a joke using the absurdity of what I put together as a hobby project over the past couple years as an example to reinforce the comment I replied to. I’ve spent my whole career in IT and it’s absurd the level of knowledge a lot of career or even hobbyist IT folks expect the general public to have.

    My generator cost $8k installed.

I ran all the cables myself, still cost $1k for the materials.

    Doorbell camera $200.

PoE cameras averages to $174 each or ~$2,500

    UPS’s: $300 combined

    MiniPC: $500

    Cage and mounts: $150

    Isolated cameras: $30 ea

    SD cards: $15 ea

All told I have over $13k invested easily and it would easily be over twice as much without knowing how to do it myself. Anyone giving folks shit for using WiFi security systems is out of touch.

  • I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do what I did. I have a WiFi doorbell camera but I also have 13 other cameras that cover the entire perimeter of my house connected to a PoE switch. My switch is on an UPS and connected to an outlet my natural gas generator cutover powers. My office (includes my miniPC running HAOS and frigate) is also on an UPS plugged into outlets my generator cutover powers in a locked cage inside a vented drawer with a 120mm exhaust fan to keep air circulation going in the drawer. All motion is recorded and saved to my local NAS (that is in the same locked cage) for 30 days and it syncs the recordings directory to the cloud. I have isolated cameras that look like usb chargers that record motion on a loop to 128GB micro sd cards aimed at all entry/exit points, hallways, and points is interest. Everything is pretty much set it and forget it. I get notified of any motion on my property regardless of my location and the jpeg captures are immediately sent to a dedicated email I setup should something unforeseen happens to the recorded video. If my or my partners cell phone is not on the WiFi all the cameras (except the doorbell and isolated ones) are set to siren mode on movement detection and they are surprisingly loud especially if two or three are going off at once.

  • Exactly how I ended up on debrid, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing anymore, I don’t mind paying but I got fed up with everything getting fractured and torn apart due to greedy ass licensing, I wouldn’t have even minded the price increases if it was one, maybe two, services but it’s absolutely ridiculous. I remember paying for up faith and family for a month to binge a show I wanted to watch and really started questioning how dumb I’d become. I got my moneys worth (imo) since I canceled after a month but I don’t have any desire to play the subscribe and cancel game either and it’s become pervasive if you just want to watch something. I knew it would get bad but I’d hoped for better, like Netflix and another competitor fighting for distribution supremacy kind of like Steam. That went to compete shit and I was naive af.
