We did reindeer; Dasher, Dancer, Vixen, etc.
People in 1982 knew there was interest in watching people play video games. Now there is more gameplay video on the Internet than you could watch in a lifetime.
arcane: understood by few; mysterious or secret
archaic: very old or old-fashioned
I did mean arcane but archaic could fit too. I don’t really have a problem with old as long as it’s good, but not that many people out of general population understand what Linux commands there are and how to fully utilize them.
It’s like so many other things, it’s simple when you know it well but when you don’t have a lot of experience it’s very daunting. A lot depends on understanding the file system, like what is the difference between /run and /media and / and /root? So much is command line with some pretty arcane commands and parameters. And not knowing what tools there are to help, and not knowing how to fix things when they break.
I could never be a wizard. Mess up code, get some error messages. Mess up a spell, get turned into a pile of goo, slaughtered by a demon, or transported to a hell dimension.
Now we have massively better graphics but in many ways the experience and gameplay have gotten worse.
ColecoVision with their perfect-looking Donkey Kong, and later Neo-Geo with the same graphics on the very expensive home console as the arcade games.
I still have all mine. But I never play them. I mess with emulators though.
How did that ever work, I’ve been there many times.
The fake information reminds me of the last time I went to the grocery store. The cashier said to the woman in front of me something like “Thank you Mrs. Smith” so I assumed she was a regular and the cashier knew her. When I checked out I fished out my rewards card and the cashier scanned it and said “Thank you Mr. Richards, have a nice day.” I almost said “Thanks but who is Richards?” But then I remembered I am Richards, that is the fake name I filled out years ago but no one has ever used it (and are they supposed to?)
I actually ran a moderately active (like 20,000 hits a day) small business site from a laptop for a couple years. Of course one of the first thing I did was put a “SERVER DO NOT SHUT DOWN” sticker on it, and set the power settings so closing the lid did not shut down or sleep the computer. It was a Dell 7000 series with 16GB IIRC, it did great.
It’s weird I don’t like launchers but Ubisoft Connect isn’t too bad IMO. It’s fast on downloads, you can hit F12 during games to take screenshots, and when you hit the X in the upper right the application actually closes instead of lurking in the tray.
I like Anno, The Crew, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and Asscreed. Looking forward to Star Wars Outlaws can’t wait.
Never found Avatar that interesting so not really interested in the game either unless it does something revolutionary.
Google with uBlock for mundane stuff like washing machine parts. Duckduckgo for anything I don’t want Google knowing about and associating with my account.
I have one, mostly play Stardew and Brawhalla coop on it. Occasionally some Wreckfest or Sonic All-Stars Racing.
I’m gonna buy it for a month, $9.99 to play Starfield and a bunch of other games is a good deal. I just don’t want to keep paying it month after month.
Yeah I’m interested to see how big the worlds are, how much freedom the player has, and if that freedom leads to any interesting gameplay like exploration.
This looks really good, but Ubi has always been good at world-building.
From this preview it reminds me of Ghost Recon Wildlands in a Star Wars universe.
I don’t need no fancy boxes for PoE.
