You might be right, but there’s not that much in the post that clearly points to burnout. The comment about stress might, but it really depends what OP meant there, and whether that stress feeling is related to their work, or something else.

If it is related to their work, then yeah, burnout could be a big part of it. In which case talking to a supervisor or a school counselor might be a good idea.

Labour in the UK haven’t offered anything new since Tony Blair, and even then it wasn’t new in a good way. It almost looked like they might with Corbyn, but they destroyed him themselves.

I don’t know how you’d measure driving “goodness”, but I expect the distribution would be something like exponential (there are billions of non-drivers, and only a few rally/stunt drivers). So the average is likely to be higher than the median.

Mastodon federation is not opt-in. As soon as anyone on one server is following one person on the other server, the servers are fully federated. From there, it’s opt-out, via blocking.

That’s nonsense. I’m on one of the main servers, and like 90% of my feed is from other servers, and it includes lots of small servers. And that’s been true for years.

It’s try the search function was bad prior to earlier this year, but it’s improved a bit. And if you are looking for someone specific, then presumably their account would be listed somewhere on their website?

Not really. Many of them are already heavily invested in life extension tech (not that I think it will work, but it means they’re optimistic). I think their general worldview is that technology will fix it, at least for them.

I mean, if the main draw-card is convenience, then signal isn’t going to have much holding power (especially when combined with the network affect problem and attentions grabbing design of other message apps).

Signal will only really succeed if there is a critical mass of people in your circles who care about security to some degree (it works well for me for this reason).

I don’t know, but it could be interesting to try. I could easily imagine topic-focussed servers that go into more depth on specific topics. Perhaps you would only federate things that are at a high level, or directly linked. Kinda like a wiki, but with each community doing it’s own decentralised curation and moderation…

I haven’t seen any spam on Lemmy yet, and only a tiny amount on mastodon (I’m much more active there).
