Programming@programming.dev•How do you handle cron jobs that silently stop working?English
12·2 days agoEveryones’ suggestion to use MAILTO is great. Wrappers are another option. One more is just schedule another cron that checks to make sure the first one did what it is supposed to do and notify you if it broke.

Conclusion
The state-level legalizations of recreational marijuana have presented many concerns about its effect on youth and the college-age population. Using data reported by college campuses, we observe that arrests and disciplinary incidents for drug law violations decreased following the legalization of recreational marijuana. The decreases in arrests after legalization are especially steep at public institutions, four-year institutions, and higher-crime-rate institutions. Additional research exploring these differences could shed light on underlying changes in police employment and focus.
Well, no shit sherlock.

Technology@lemmy.world•Lenovo Warns PC RAM Prices Will "Never" Go Back to NormalEnglish
281·14 days agoCapital/time intensive start up costs make it a barrier to entry. This is why the prices are so high. Supply is inelastic because the producers know this is a bubble. If they do the capital intensive thing and the bubble pops before realizing the additional capacity, they are left holding the bag.

51·15 days agoThis is doable, just tedious by hand. Your favorite clanker can walk you through the steps to find a geoip datasource (eg. bootleg maxmind, ASN lists, etc), and either directly write the routes, or a script that will generate it from that source.

5·1 month agoI’m sorry to hear this. I’ve appreciated your interactions. I hope you stick around on here for awhile though. And your family probably wants you to stick around a bit longer too. Disappearing probably doesn’t make the financial stuff easier, while plausible accidental death likely works out better.

Complexity engineering. You have to develop an intuition of how much chaos your change will introduce. And learn to be fast when shit breaks.
