My perspective is that people in the USA are more likely to THREATEN to sue, which a lot of the time is an empty threat, and a lot harder to quantify

It may be against the Ts&Cs, but you can use a User Agent changing extension in Firefox (or your browser of choice) to trick it into thinking it is Edge. You can also switch to a mobile user agent, should you need to ;)
This does seem to be a US centric problem, I don’t know anyone who still uses SMS, everyone seems to use Facebook Messenger/WhatsApp/Telegram/Signal here
